Where's the Mystery?
All I see is 768MB crappy boxes?
They were originally supposed to be 1GB crappy boxes but I lowered it to make it slightly more expensive than the Christmas sale, since the Christmas sale didn't have a mystery.
I'm changing the them to 1GB now (retroactively.) Note, this doesn't count as your mystery.

Nice. Could be happy with Candle #1, but was hoping for a little more.
Okay I've made up my mind, unless anyone opposes.
We'll keep the sale going regardless of quantities sold. After the first candle is over, we'll put it out of stock, give everyone their mystery, then put it back in stock as the second one, and repeat. This lets people who wanted to collect more than one mystery to do that and keeps it closer to the original plans. It'll probably get messier if we try to get people to choose a mystery after they thought they were just getting the first mystery.
@Virmach so the mystery hasn't been delivered yet? I just assumed Candle #1 was the minimum specs and I didn't 'win' anything? (thanks for making it better though!)

Mystery revealed and processed at around 4-5PM PST daily.
Nothing “won” yet, the bandwidth fix was a bug and 1GB upgrade was an overall change.
(edit) But again please for anyone reading this, don't expect anything more than a 1GB VPS for $18.88/2YR.
@VirMach said: They averaged out to a really good deal. We gave out a high amount of resources per dollar, higher than if it wasn't a mystery. If someone bought like 10 plans spread out, they'd come out ahead.
I think you may be putting a bit of 'spin' on what I remember although we are talking a year ago so I could well be mistaken.
I totally beleive what you just said i.e. you DID give out a high amount of resources..... but this was to a smaller number of purchasers. The majority did get more crap, but when averaged out, as you say, the amount of resources per dollar was higher.
Please don't misundestand - I and most of the others fullly appreciated what we were purchasing and in no way want to suggest you were doing anything wrong. You wanted to create a bit of fun (which you did) and some people really did benefit.
As far as this years 'mystery box' I must be stupid, if I use the link on the first page I see the Cristmas list which does not look like any mystery to me and prices don't match the Candle prices? i know all about security by obscurity but applying this to buying????

We're definitely not disagreeing, I was just adding some context. If they averages to 2-3GB memory then that would mean more lower ones than higher ones, although it was balanced relatively well.
This year we're just adding a minimum that's 1GB (now) instead of 128MB so that also means the higher end could be lower. To be clear I have no idea what it averages out to this time, and the mysteries aren't just a spreadsheet of random specifications. I just very much started typing out stuff into a notepad file for the mysteries as I went. Think of them as nothing but potential bonus gifts. At the price we're giving the 1GB service, it's already competitive so I don't think anyone should be upset if that's all it is, to be honest. I think about 30 minutes of thought went into this sale.

The first page is just confusing at this point. Christmas sale is over and Hannukah sale is 1GB now. If @FrankZ has the time and desires, Christmas portion should be moved down and Hannukah portion changed from having eight copy pastes of candles to just one and it says 1GB, 1 Core, 25GB SSD, 2TB BW.
The Mystery Box #1 has not been unveiled yet, so nobody knows what they got yet.
oh i thought it was instant provisioning
I personally think the first one is pretty mild. When I say mild I mean "safe" feeling. And I guess I feel comfortable describing all of the mysteries, just from a "safety" perspective. When i say "safe" .. I guess I should elaborate on this too, I mean you'd look at it and go "oh, cool I guess" versus "oh but I didn't want that" or "I can't believe VirMach did that to me" or "holy crap."
From Mild to Insane. (Mild --> Medium --> Medium-High --> High --> Wild --> Insane)
Day 1: Mild
Day 2: Medium
Day 3: High
Day 4: Wild
Day 5: Medium-high
Day 6: Medium-high
Day 7: Insane
Day 8: Insane/Wild
Disclaimer: this is just how I would describe them after glancing at them for 30 seconds. My perception could be wrong. Mild to Insane is only from a risky and imbalanced type perspective. "Insane" is the only one that introduces some obvious negatives but it will be opt-in (you decide.) And "wild" means possibility of getting no gift/small gift. "Insane" does NOT mean the best.
Disclaimer #2: this is also where I say all you're getting is a 1GB instant provisioned service. Not to confuse you but because that's all that is promised and the ONLY thing you should be making your purchase decision based on.
Disclaimer #3: I confused myself with Wild and Insane. They could basically be interchanged to some degree or wrong, one of them is what I said it is in terms of getting nothing. I don't remember.
If anyone wants to cancel/refund to store credits their day 1 deal so they can purchase another day's deal after the above information was disclosed, if they purchased it before it was posted, just make a ticket before the reveal. Place a cancellation request and make a ticket, it'll be terminated.
I just got candle #1 🕯
And only now see the post of mild... I'll have to re-read it a couple of times to figure out if that's a good thing or bad thing in the greater context

Lol nooooooo, I'm going to pretend I didn't see that, so I don't have to overthink things again.
(I'm determined while I say this, but knowing I'm probably anyways going to re-read and then re-think and then still not know!)

I feel like if I say anything else it'll make you overthink it even more rather than making it clearer. So I'll go ahead and try to clarify further of course.
It's just boring (to me.) It's one of the easier ones for me to process. A universally inoffensive change occurs. It does potentially become more valuable, just not in the way you might think. There's also two different things that can happen. There will be other mysteries that you might personally think would have been better, but everyone who didn't like their mystery or have no use for it will have wished they would have just got this one instead.
@VirMach Will the mystery also change the service location? Or will I keep my location (especially if for Tokyo) while getting the mystery modification?
@sanvit said: @VirMach Will the mystery also change the service location? Or will I keep my location (especially if for Tokyo) while getting the mystery modification?
There's no location based mystery. I wanted to add one in as an "optional" mystery but I decided against it since it would be universally hated and help no one (including me, since I'd have to transfer it.)
@imok said:
I don't get it. I purchase a service with the low specs but I get some mysterious specs?
You buy it and immediately get exactly what you buy (the 'low specs') and at the location you selected.
But then after the 'reveal', there may or may not be, some mysterious extra surprise upgrade specs added/upgraded...
It could either be something you'll really love and make it way better, or something you'll be meh about
But it won't end up with less than those minimum 'low specs' you bought.
So worst case scenario is, you get the 1GB mem, 25GB ssd, 1 core, 2TB bw for 2 years @ $18.88
So basically you have to decide what you think a good price would be for those specs, for 2 years, and then subtract it from $18.88 ...and that is in effect the amount $'s you are "gambling" with, to possibly get (one of the) best of the 8 possible upgrade outcomes.
Edit: one of the lucky wild/insane upgrades might be an extra 1,200GB NVME "for free" (kidding, I guess that'll be highly unlikely, but... who knows?)

If I were a customer, I would personally be purchasing this deal even if it didn't come with any bonuses. It's probably the most standard/most popular size of VPS for $18.88 per two years. For comparison, our purple competitor is currently providing that for $22.08 on Intel E5's (I assume.) And about the same price on our flash deals if you average out the 1GB ones and having to wait for it to be available for the location you require (but of course it could also end up being a few dollars cheaper or a little more disk.)
And then if I were VirMach and knew what I knew, I would personally be buying a few of them in all eight days as these have really good idling per dollar potential.
@ZA_capetown said: Edit: one of the lucky wild/insane upgrades might be an extra 1,200GB NVME "for free" (kidding, I guess that'll be highly unlikely, but... who knows?)
Theoretically possible but if everyone purchased all the quantities available on all days, then the odds of that are about 0.02% so virtually won't happen. So something like 1 in 1000 or buy all 400 available plans across all days to boost your odds to 40% for only $7,552.
Okay for real though if someone did buy all of them for $7,552 -- assuming they require all the resources -- it would end up being a hell of a deal.
Wonders if the brat will get the obligatory Male Genital Mutilation as punishment for the broken candlestick (missing a protrusion/candle). Just a thought.
It wisnae me! A big boy done it and ran away.
NVMe2G for life! until death (the end is nigh)
I see gambling is back! I will take a look tomorrow what drama is happening this time and why people that decide to gamble are mad they are not winning big because it happens in every damn movie!
I could even buy one tomorrow if this will be still online as scrolling past some post I see VirMach changing his mind few times already 😂
