So Switzerland is also still happening? :o

Yeah, but basically LU nodes will shift 1:1 to NL. And then people can self-migrate to CH if they want. Too many people require stuff in EU proper, so we won't dump anyone to CH unless they opt-in.

Just so you're aware, the government of Switzerland is currently debating whether or not to revise its surveillance law. If the revision passes, companies would be required by law to provide access to intelligence services upon request. This would mean Switzerland could lose its strong privacy advantage.

Voting is set to take place in May. The CEO of Proton has already stated that the company will leave Switzerland if the law passes.

    Interesting.. thanks for the info.

Will share with BuyVM crew. Crane's only going there if we can mooch off BuyVM bandwidth/infra, since it doesn't make sense for us to add a 3rd European PoP otherwise (UK + NL are locked in).

  • Neat! This is something I wanted to use back when NameCrane was still part of Frantech!

What other limitations or features are you going to add? For example, some cloud services will provision dedicated cores to their offloaded database solutions. Is that something you're hoping (or even able) to do in the future?

What requirements will you put in place to possibly move some db heavy users onto the service?

We aren't doing dedicated resources since that's pretty difficult in a 'shared' setup like this is. If we were doing fully containerized MySQL for each user, then sure, but you might as well just buy a VPS in that case.

If a user has a large enough crate with us then we're just as inclined to give them offload SQL for free, to get the load off the nodes.
