TLDR: moving my production ecommerce site to Virmach for cost savings and because of low traffic

This is truly a challenge! Wishing you success! =)

Feeling a bit tired, let's call it a day.

  • Good luck @JDMcPea , you'll need it.

  • "moving my production ecommerce site to Virmach for cost savings and because of low traffic"

that is almost the worst decision possible. The next to this is the ihostart or c1v for prod. Holy shit! Is he nuts? No, he's insane!

  • still have my vm acct active, but with no service currently.

  • I am using exactly the same setup for the past 3+ years. My primary VPS is VirMach where eCommerce site is hosted. Then I was using another low cost VirMach VPS to host backup in case something goes wrong with primary. And guess what, it went wrong with both as both VPS were on same location Buffalo, NY so both went down at the same time. Lesson learned.

Then I got a good Crunchbits VPS deal as backup which is now my secondary and VirMach primary. Yesterday VirMach suspended my VPS due to bandwidth over usage so tried to move to backup.....but.....due to some permission issue, database was being backed up correctly but not the files. Like they say, always check your backups!!!!! so I had no choice but to buy additional bandwidth to keep the site running. Lesson learned.

Now I am checking that issue as to why files were not backed up.

Although that Crunchbits VPS will be going too in a few months as I am sure you must have got that email from them that they will no longer renew it after the end of period (as it is costing them more money)

^ near identical configuration with CHI and Spokane. Fortunately, I construct my own backup scripts and restore files & database as two individual entities.

Per Crunchbits when I opened a ticket as they recommended:

We can move your existing promotional services to our newer Xeon Scalable Gold lineup with NVMe disks. This will also come with a slight bump in RAM. The pricing will remain the same as your current service, and we're happy to keep you here as long as you wish to stay with us. While we do understand this situation is a bit of a hassle for you, all of us do want to thank you very much for your patience.

    ........

Due to the volume of requests, we're unable to give you an exact ETA, but everything will be completed before your due date (or we'll extend your existing server as-is until we're ready). .... .

Let us know if you'd like to proceed with this option, and we'll get you started.

    Best,
    Suhail

Obviously responded that wanted to proceed. Crunchbits will do what they say. Currently my Crunch LES special shows a pending cancelation request set for August 2025 and the hardware has not changed yet.

Point taken... should mention that payments are not processed directly through the site. But definitely if they were then moving my site to Virmach would be even riskier

As soon as everything is switched over going to attach a new hetrix uptime monitor. How about a contest and whoever guesses closest to the actual number after a month wins a ????
