YT-DL/YT-DLP Frontend for homeserver?
Looking to setup a YT-DL web-frontend on my homeserver (Futro S740 running Ubuntu) so the gf can access it and use it without need of CLI. Am I right to assume something docker would be the easiest way to go? I have found these so far:
https://github.com/Tzahi12345/YoutubeDL-Material
https://github.com/alexta69/metube
Does anyone have any experience with any of those options, or another option, perhaps?

True love is adding her public key to your server.
No hostname left!
+1 for YouTubeDL material. Works fine, been using it for a few months now, and as you said, it has a docker compose setup, so easy to manage.

I have good experiences with Peertube, a distributed open source Youtube alternative with built-in YT-DL client.
Some examples of public instances (random, homeserver-search related):
There are Peertube clients on F-droid.
Newpipe (also on F-droid) supports Peertube as well as Youtube for viewing and downloading.
I'm not sure if I got that correctly, but Peertube would be like hosting an alternative YouTube Frontend, correct?
I think, currently, an alternative Frontend is sort of overkill as I imagine smth like YT-DL Material where you input Links and dl in format should suffice. I will read into it though, thanks for bringing it up!

Yes, correct.
@yoursunny , I just noticed your new tag-upgrade, congratulations!
I use Metube for that. It also has a bookmarklet to send the current tab to Metube via API.
I also create a iOS shortcut to send the same from my phone. Basically, click share in YouTube ios app and select that shortcut to send to Metube.

You misspelled "pubic"
wut? No...
Peertube is not a youtube front end. It's got nothing to do with yt at all and is more about the backend.
For a yt front end you'd want something like Invidious. Though I think yt has started blocking that.
Ympker - I've used the tzahi image you've got there before. Worked fine

Sorry, you are completely right.
I read it as 'Peertube would be like hosting an alternative Youtube', and missed the frontend-bit.
I'll just put this here - hoping that @MannDude can provide any technical details. It works:

Not that, as a "YouTube creator," I'm thrilled with the adblocking stuff, but for the privacy concerned folks, I think that's a good option to do it right.

See what I did there?

Very nice. Basically all the tools that YouTube provides.

Links all show 403 Forbidden for me.
Works from Serbia, works with Windscribe too.
Chrome, Brave and Edge work fine.

Only works on desktop browsers. It doesn't work on mobile or mobile "desktop view". Site exists mainly for the I2P network so YouTube can be enjoyed over it.

I was checking it out with Chrome on a computer, no VPN. Oh well.
Still not working for you?

It looks like it works for me on Firefox, but not Chrome:
I see there is a way to select CC and go to full screen, is there any way to select stream quality or is everything proxied in SD?
NewPipe on Android would let your gf download Youtube videos on her phone.
VPS providers to check out:
I've been using Newpipe on my phone forever lol. That might actually be even easier😂 Somehow totally forgot about Newpipe.

FWIW, for some reason, Newpipe stopped working on my Firestick several months ago and I don't know why. The free alternatives like Libretube, Pipesomething, and Clipious(?) also stopped working, too. According to FDroid, I'm running the current versions.
Surprised no one has suggested this yet: https://github.com/tubearchivist/tubearchivist
If you just want to Download, not watch YouTube, there's also "Seal" for Android (FDroid).
Newpipe has been working fine on Android for me.

I have Seal installed, but haven't used it. Newpipe has been working on Android for me - just not on the Firestick anymore and I don't have any clue why since nothing else changed.
My fire stick has been acting up overall. Not a big fan of Amazon pushing towards FireOS and wanting to ditch Android all together. Maybe my next device will be a Google Chromecast again.

Ditto. I really just wanted something I could use to stream stuff from Youtube and my local NAS.
