Better antivirus to check user-uploaded files for viruses?
Hello,
I have a website where people upload files all the time, and I run ClamAV on them every time to check if there is any virus. However, I've noticed that ClamAV's quality is not the best, in fact, I had a user upload a xls file yesterday with a malicious script inside that wasn't picked up at all.
I tried uploading it on VirusTotal, and indeed it was picked up by many engines.
Is there a better AV software than ClamAV that can be used to check files on Linux? I don't need realtime protection, just a "please scan this file here" cli. Also, possibly no subscriptions, though I'd be more than happy to buy a software if the price is decent.

There is probably no better free Linux AV than Clam out there (that you could use for something else than just your personal PC).
You may try to increase the chances of detecting bad stuff by using additional definitions like these: https://github.com/extremeshok/clamav-unofficial-sigs
Although the following is admittedly anecdata, I also think you might be better off eventually going for some kind of commercial solution: https://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/spam/CommercialAntiMalwareBetter - they were scanning mail with ClamAV, and still are, but it seems that overall (and esp. when it comes to malicious Office macros) Clam simply isn't as good as the paid stuff (in their case, Sophos).
