Who do we root for? * The underdog! When do we do it? * All the days!

I like the new batch of benchmark scripts that use a handful of 10G Iperf3 servers. Is it YABs? disk IO: fio with 4k/8k blocksizes if you are evaluating iops headroom. Cpu: CPU steal tells you a lot about how the node is being managed by operator.

How many of those unblock Flix?

Have backups. In the low end segment, cheap vps/dedi + regular tested backups beats any redundant setup.

Haha. This could be a separate category : Tidying up: server edition Inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvyeapVBLWY

Also, I don't like the idea of online password managers. I use keepassxc (updated via snap) and sync it with my Seafile. I always have offline access to the last updated version.

Don't selfhost mail. Use the time saved to learn other skills

I would Keep the 22 eu hetzner and 1x3TB backup kvm. You can do a lot with just this setup. Edit: just saw your location. Keeping the drserver Dallas avoton dedi is suddenly compelling for vma backup storage and light self-hosting. Edit2: read aga…

I try to size my proxmox kvm disks slightly under the common template sizes, so that I have a vps exit strategy. (I.E dd over the converted vma backups from my backup-vps to a new KVM VPS, and growfs if necessary.) Hetzner sb dedi can't be beat fo…

Or 40.33 Eur without VAT

I will just use the money I didn't spend on ssd kvm, to add a EUR7/mo 480GB Datacenter SSD to my 22eur hetzner when I truly need the IOPS ? HDD raid1 is pretty OK for single tenant selfhosted apps.

(Quote) STAHP. I can't resist any more.

Only remorse is not remembering to cancel an ultravps SSD 1GB kvm before contract date. It seems billing date was Nov1 , and I needed to do it before Oct15. I kinda assumed Bill date would be the date I purchased (BlackFriday 2016). So, now I have…

In other news, I was reviewing my best of VPS inventory. A 2015 ( Singapore launch ) Leaseweb 4core KVM ( 70% discount ) is still running fabulous. 0 cpu steal when I burn all cores doing make -j4. It's $7/mo now after all the 3% hikes. Keeping i…

(Quote) Let me introduce you to my little friend, the 21 euro 8 core Hetzner 4770k.? I run ffmpeg jobs in lxc too. (Quote) Thanks for this. I've been postponing this for 2years.

@nyr naranjatech seems to be colo-Ed with liteserver/serverius There's also a 15/yr 1GB kvm for CM, if this sells out https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/3055675/#Comment_3055675

I didn't know Virmach's paper limits were that restrictive. I have no need for LA /Buffalo as well. Now let's take a moment to appreciate @liteserver 's model cpu clauses. It just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, even with a single core. 5.1 Client …

(Quote) Now you know why everyone posts 'iso boot supported?' on every kvm thread. LUKS aes128xts has practically no overhead on intel Cpus after 2011 Be safe my friends.

Just shutdown. (LUKS volumes mean quick and simple retirement)

(Quote) I've taken you up on the offer. I'm really curious to see DA from the end-user's perspective. Never did get around to using the free DA license I had.

Also, tested with a 64K blocksize. Much higher MB/s read/write naturally test: (g=0): rw=randrw, bs=(R) 64.0KiB-64.0KiB, (W) 64.0KiB-64.0KiB, (T) 64.0KiB-64.0KiB, ioengine=libaio, iodepth=64fio-3.16-60-gbef7Starting 1 processtest: Laying out IO fil…

Friend shared a fio 75/25 read/write bench run with 4K blocksize. ( on the NVME-1 plan.) ./fio --randrepeat=1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=1 --gtod_reduce=1 --name=test --filename=test --bs=4k --iodepth=64 --size=4G --readwrite=randrw --rwmixread=75t…

Eyebrow raised This should be popcorn material soon.

Don't blow up the farm Ant. But seriously, you're doing exactly what I want to do. I reckon I can easily harvest 2kwh minimum for 8hrs with my shadow-free roof area.

(Quote) Yep. I've asked him to ticket it. Well-balanced offer. (Quote) Way ahead of you on this . hehe. I certainly didn't expect such a juicy storage KVM.

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14982202 (shared by a friend over PM) Decent amount of CPU grunt on the storage node. Single cpu is enough. ? Edit : host CPU instructions like Aes missing in this GB4 run.

(Quote) How is the quality of their BG network? I abandoned my UA kvm from the same 2017 offer 12mo ago, after seeing yo-yo performance from their unmetered pipe. I would have been fine with 100mbit stable. https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/co…

@AnthonySmith : fix the category maybe.

Reference : I have a custom ssd-kvm from June 2019. I was put on a 4th gen E5 with zero cpu steal. I can't tell it apart from a E3v1 in terms of performance. The SSDs are enterprise grade as is every disk they use. https://clients.liteserver.nl/ind…
