Awesome updates to my favorite bench script. Thank you @Mason!

Well that’s unexpected and seems a bit rash, but I’m sure there are reasons. I hope Chike is doing okay. Sounds like a difficult time for him. If we’re sharing favorite past deals, I had the following for $6/m: 5 Core 3900X 6GB RAM 30GB NVMe 4TB B…

(Quote) I’ve mentioned this to you before, but myself and others really do appreciate the great service you do for the community with your testing. Just because this post went south doesn’t mean you should stop.

My 2c: Yes, this is a major problem that can’t be ignored. And yes this absolutely should have been taken care of earlier. But that doesn’t mean everything was handled well here. There’s always more than meets the eye, and I think there’s more tha…

I know multiple people have mentioned this, but I just wanted to add myself on to the list of people that are incredibly impressed with the service provided by @seriesn. He takes any issues seriously, and will do whatever it takes to ensure smooth s…

As of several releases ago, macOS added a native framework for virtualizing in the user-space. I doubt it's any faster than VMWare/Parallels, but it's definitely less intrusive. There used to be an app (Veertu) that was a lightweight GUI over this …

Hey cuties, I've got a tasty bench to share of the new LA location to whet your appetite before launch on the 10th. This is a VPS-4G. Feast your eyes on this (and hide your wallet): # ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## …

(Quote) One of these. But the specifics are not important and the thread is getting derailed. :D

Thank you for donating to a great cause!

You’re gonna singlehandedly make our man deadpool lol. Great deal you’ve got on your hands! And that’s a wonderful way to treat your customers, @seriesn. Well done.

(Quote) Sorry, I took it personally. It’s a false stereotype that keeps perpetuating and salts my jimmies.

(Quote) My choice of hobby in my free time is not indicative of my work ethic. I’m employed at a BigN company and I worked damn hard to get there.

(Quote) I tried really hard to use Linux as my personal desktop OS. I gave Solus a spin, and I actually really liked the opinionated approach. Budgie is also decent as a WM. The problem for me is that I’m a competitive gamer. Linux isn’t built for …

Sharing this bad boy from @HostDoc LA. My first gateway drug into a Ryzen VPS. As a side note, I’ve been looking for a Ryzen-based VPS since Ryzen was first released. I upgraded my personal PC to Ryzen on day one and it’s been flawless. I wonder wh…

(Quote) Nearly everything I do on a personal VPS is through Docker containers. I rarely interact with the system at all. So going Alpine might not affect me as much as I thought...

(Quote) I’ve wondered what I’d miss if I switched from Debian to Alpine. I should look into it.

Thanks for sharing, everyone, but I’d also love to hear why you chose that distro. And you’re totally right, @tetech.

(Quote) The original poster asked for opinions on what people do on a new server. I assume by “bloat” you mean Docker. And that’s fair. But I depend on Docker; that’s why it’s included. Of course if you want a secure box, disable login and shut it …

(Quote) My opinion on this: 1) All of the tools I use on my boxes support ports other than the default 2) It’s super easy to change 3) A non-default port won’t get slapped as hard So for me, it’s a no brainer. Might not be that more secure, but I …

(Quote) Hey I’ve only got two idlers, and that’s one more than I usually have. :D

(Quote) Yeah, good catch on the firewall. I usually add a few more rules afterwards and then enable. I’ll edit the OP, thanks for the feedback!

(Quote) Totally fair. Once I discovered Docker I was addicted to being able to set up my existing stack within a couple of minutes. I’d never go back now. :) (Quote) Yeah I’d like that too. Frankly I’m too lazy to use ssh keys, but I know I should.

I have a super scrappy script that I use to bootstrap Debian-based servers. Definitely a personal script, but it might help you out? #!/bin/bash# Editable variablesV_USER='xx'V_SSH_PORT='xxxxx'# Update user settingsecho '**** Updating root password…

My vote for the host I currently use: @HostDoc. I’m currently getting a delicious deal on a Ryzen box that has been treating me well, and I’ve received great support. And while this is not a vote (don’t ban me @AnthonySmith ), big shout out to @ser…

I think 2020 is going to be the year of AMD. Even just over the past couple of months I’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of providers offering a Ryzen box. I’m hyped about it; the speeds are amazing!

Welcome home!

I’ve heard good things about Cockpit. I have yet to try it though, since I’m lazy and just use NodeQuery instead.
