Good luck! Last time I tried to run Rawhide it lasted until I updated, which was about 5 minutes after install.

(Quote) Citrix is mudding the waters about all of this by stating dynamic memory control == dynamic memory optimization == memory overcommit == memory ballooning. :eyeroll: https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xencenter/7-1/dmc-about.html

(Quote) It looks like it was added in Xen 3.3 and XenServer 5.6. https://xenproject.org/2008/08/27/xen-33-feature-memory-overcommit/ https://speakvirtual.com/2011/02/28/memory-overcommitment-in-xenserver-and-esx/

There is Kimchi, the oVirt UI, which can be run as a standalone application.
-
oVirt is the upstream of RHEV, so it's probably fine. It is more targeted at internal IT virt servers with VMware vSphere being a more natural competitor. I play with it from time to time. It takes more work to setup then I usually want todo, and h…

(Quote) Maybe a slight bit more context. Colonization is a pretty broad brush, and I'm only roughly familiar with California history because that's not something they talk about in Texas. I doubt it. No one would pay me to write this stuff. …

(Quote) I was setting up a joke about tree hugging and a Dead Kennedys reference. What are you talking about?

(Quote) True. Being at the base and feeling like an ant is still mind bending. (Quote) Be fair. It's the outstanding warrants. ;)

Pfff. If you've seen one tree, you've seen them all.* *Excluding redwoods and sequoias which are massive, and it's hard to comprehend exactly how big they are until they are right there.

There's not a great solution.> @WSS said: (Quote) Yeah, there's nothing that's really great, and the stuff out there is pretty obscure. Playing with provisioning could be an excuse to buy more hardware. I just need a palette, and then I'l…

(Quote) So that's what keeps happening to my torrents!?!? (Image) (Quote) It is a classic of the genre, and a pinnacle of early 21st century television. So much research and resources went into making it. :p

(Quote) Which is part of the whole grading on a scale and warped morality thing. Every company complies with the laws of the countries they do business in because their object is to make money. Full stop. No company is going to save people from any…

(Quote) Unlike Google a decade ago, the CF c-suite already has questionable politics, and I don't trust them. In the pantheon of giant tech companies, Google still looks pretty good. Everyone loves MS these days, but they've done some really awful …

(Quote) You know, roughly the same. I haven't looked at the exact details of each one, but feature wise, they work similarly.

(Quote) It depends. Personal stuff is Restic and Rsync.net for long running things like desktops, laptops, and servers. Config tarballs or a git repo for the experimental stuff. My personal stuff is really adhoc because stuff comes and goes, and I'…

I recently setup an RPi3+ with FreeBSD as my home server. Does that count? I also have a Thinkstation D30 which has an iffy UEFI implementation, but I keep trying.

(Quote) KVM can directly boot a kernel. This might be what they did. I've seen the option, but I haven't tried it. QEMU/KVM can do some wild stuff, and I use like 10% of its functionality.

@willie Sleeping with a GPU under your pillow or a sacrifice to the tech gods might work. (Image)

(Quote) Of course. There's always a sweet spot in the price to performance ratio, and I'm good with living with those trade-offs provided I have correct information. No one would have care if the SMR Reds had worked for their intended purpose, so y…

Server The Home has a good take on the SMR fiasco. They point out no one in the WD c-suite wanted to be attached to this, the blog post was authored by "Western Digital", and WD made no commitment to not submarine inappropriate tec…

(Quote) Update: I have two WD Blacks, and I just threw them into two SFF Optiplexes I'm trying to fix.

(Quote) I had a Black, or I still have a Black. I'm not sure if it's still in the tech closet or not. Anyway, it was hot for it's time.

From the Tom's article... (Quote) Well, yeah. I don't think anyone is debating SMR being useful in the correct situation. They're complaining the SMR Reds didn't work as advertised or as well as the CMR Reds. Maybe it's time for a Brown line.
