(Quote) Well, as sad as it is for those affected: you are certainly right! And as entertaining as it might be to watch the comments over on twitter on this, I have to keep in mind, that I am also not always tracking the backup activities of my serve…

I was somehow expecting to see Hetzner sell quite a few a server on the server auction, given that this incident most probably has affected quite a lot of people. But still not too much movement in the availability count.
-
(Quote) No idea what that was, as I said: was most probably me, who had no idea how to use Virtualizor. Otherwise the server is running quite well!
-
(Quote) Yeah, same for me...only once though and thought and I just misclicked somewhere in the Virtualizor. Well, technically it didn't change, but the interfaces file was overwritten with the default one, even though I installed from ISO. And as m…

(Quote) Just out of curiosity: what are you deploying/running there? I only played around with the Jelastic service provided by ArubaCloud, but even though I liked the idea/system in general, I couldn't really find a use for my (non-enterprise) need…
-
Sounds a bit like what the whole "Jelastic" approach is about. ;)
-
Well, you could go with Time4VPS - 170€/year (boils down to 14,17€/month) with annual commitment. Got a pretty stable service the last almost 6 years. BUT be aware, as far as I know: it is still OpenVZ6! Good option would most probably also be BuyV…

At the risk of sounding impatient: any update, @gleert ? :)
-
Well, you would then have a classic "chicken-and-egg" problem: whom would you ask for the IP of the entered A record? ;)

Isn't BunnyCDN receiving quite some love around here? Tested their service a while ago and really liked it, but never used it in production - so I can't speak about the scale of LES.

(Quote) Haha, I guess it's the same as always - there is never the right moment for something like VPS shopping. :D Will be my first AMD VPS, let's see how it performs. Most likely will replace my (mostly idle) Plex server.
-
Nice offer, excited to have a try! :) Now the waiting begins... Just one question: will the billing period be updated, as soon as the servers are ready?
-
(Quote) Not joking: I bought one of their VPN services just in this second. Right when I wanted to retrieve the password about 20 minutes ago, their server went away. But it seems to be a bigger incident, my server is not reachable as well - but I s…

(Quote) What are the chances to end up on a different node, if one already has a storage box in Phoenix? i.e. how many hosts are there?
-
This usually happens when you run out of memory during the operation. What did you try to install? I think I got 18.04 on at least one box as well and didn't run into a problem - it's a 256MB one.
-
(Quote) Yeah, that's the problem with it: it's addicting! ;) Not just the CPUs, but all of the VPS stuff...ask me or anyone else around here.

(Quote) See below, my assumption turned out to be wrong... Their other container VPS are on OV7, though. (Quote) Just got my ticket answered (<30min!) and unfortunately, there is no OV7 yet for the storage VPS.
-
(Quote) I was somehow under the assumption, that this only is true for my old box, but newly provisioned ones are OV7. (based on this community post) So yes, this is a big downer and be most likely the reason why I won't renew it after 6 years of se…

Not sure it that's the right place, but I thought I might share the halloween offer Time4VPS sent around via mail: (Image) Link: https://time4vps.com/storage-discount/ I am now in for more than 5 years on their 512GB storage server and it never l…

(Quote) As far as I know, this is not (yet) possible.

(Quote) How long did it take until you were able to log into SolusVM? It still tells me the provided user doesn't exist and (obviously) it can't be found below any of the other SolusVM users. Never mind, stored the wrong URL in my password manager …

(Quote) Damned, this time you got me! No idea what to use the server for at the moment... Might try it as a SFTP storage for Nextcloud or maybe SSHFS for Plex, no idea if this will work due to latency, however.
-
Great offer! If I didn't just renew my US server... Anyone around here, that has already used a service from CloudCone? :)
-
I did a similar thing for some time, but the clients that sent the data were servers from outside the network. But at some point I switched to a storage VPS and BorgBase, way less moving parts... By the way, the SynoCommunity repository offers borg…

Usually vnstat, but slurm when I feel fancy. :P

Just use Caddy and thank me later! :D https://caddyserver.com/

Great offer! Storage plan is especially tempting, but I have no idea about SSHFS performance with the high latencies to the US. Any thoughts?

Used the "Bare Metal" product offered by Vultr for something like this workload once: https://www.vultr.com/products/bare-metal/#pricing Worked great and process was as streamlined as we know it from the simple VPS setups. It's not cheap, …

(Quote) As far as I know, there is only a limit on the number of accounts that you can backup at the same time. But that shouldn't be a problem with your use case.
-
I used "MailStore Home" (https://www.mailstore.com/en/products/mailstore-home/) for this quite a few times lately, worked great! Just did a backup on the old an then restored it to the new server instead.

Node was very stable for years, but for a few months now it reboots every so often and it seems as if IO performance is suddenly very bad. Maybe connected?

(Quote) Forget what I said above, I mixed it up and read is as the other way round...
