Favorite no-code website builder

Hey everyone

What is your favorite no code builder. Self hosted or cloud. Focusing on free one here’s to see what new emerging products are worth exploring. Please also share why.

I personally like ghost as it has subscriptions built in and you can self host too.

    WordPress, using Bricks Builder.

The most powerful builder that i have ever tested. It's not free, but worth it.

Before Mid-2024: multiple. Last 4 months- Claude 3.5 or any other LLM. Esp after WordPress drama, using ClassicPress as base.. Caveat: Not ideal alternative, may not be for everyone.

SmallWeb V2 used Mobirise. I don't know what it's like in 2024 as this was a fair few years ago now, but I liked it (except the clunk)

They have limited free blocks but I paid for that shit, where's my account? No idea.

WP Elementor works great. It's free for the basic version of the plugin. It can be slow if you dont cache correctly and you need to select a good theme that will not be a resource hog because elementor can need more resources than you would wish, and if you use poorly coded theme or plugins plus woocommerce, then you may have resource issues. Other than that it's a great no code builder with plenty of options and addons free as plugins.

Yes, it's apparently real. Looks like an alternative to elementor.

Better than Gutenberg? How is experience?

If you want Gutenberg based, then Cwicly is one of the best so far. I just don't really like their drama. From paid to Free, and then it would be paid again someday. There are many alternatives to this, like the well-known GenerateBlocks, Spectra, Kadence Blocks, GreenShift, Stackable, you named it.

Breakdance is visual builder, the easier version of Oxygen Builder, created by the team behind Oxygen Builder itself. But as i said above if you want very powerful Visual Builder at the moment, Bricks Builder is the perfect choice.

I have no idea. Thought @Amadex was being humorous for a moment. But the demo video looks fine.
I've been thinking of checking it out this saturday. I'll let you know how it goes.

At company where I work full-time we used to build webs with Oxygen, then we switched to Breakdance and I love it.

Our default stack is: Breakdance + Fluent Forms + Advanced Custom Fields + Complianz

It's just a license key, you can get the breakdance .zip from their official repo. The guy is active in BD facebook community.

Honestly, really depends on what your particular needs are. For most people, Wordpress (in spite of the recent drama going on within the WP community) is more than sufficient, and there are a ton of great WYSIWYG/visual builders available for it. I personally have experience using Elementor Pro and a few others but for the past few years my go-to favorite has been a combination of using CSSHero's visual CSS editor and their (awesome) CSS animation editor, alongside a WP add-on called YellowPencil. This is an approach targeted more for those who are already somewhat comfortable working in HTML/CSS than the standard fully visual editors like Elementor or Bricks (both of which are great), but, I like it the best.

Then you also have the obligatory mentions of Webflow and WIX Studio. WIX Studio in particular has come a really long way over the past year or two, I had been using their sister platform "Editor X" which I didn't even know was owned by WIX for the longest time, and only learned about their connection when I got an e-mail informing me that Editor X was being folded into WIX's platform and they were merging the brands, more or less. WIX Studio has way less of a learning curve than Webflow does for beginners and it's still incredibly powerful, I am continually impressed with it tbh.

...and lastly, I figure I might as well make my first post on here in nearly 5 years a banger and would be remiss not to mention some of the emerging AI-based technology making waves in this area of webdev. In particular, if you are someone who works in apps like Figma (or Framer -- which has transitioned into become a fantastic fully-featured app that'll let you do everything and launch a working site right from Framer itself alone), but like most people have had issues taking it from "nice design on the screen" to "functional website that looks the same but is properly coded", AI is coming to the rescue. I'll spare you from reading more as this is already way long enough but I have tried these to varying degrees: builder.io figment.so locofy.ai siter.io quest.ai and animaapp.com (one of these is not like the other, lol). Locofy in particular is quite interesting, and Builder.io is probably the best otherwise (anima is good too), IMHO.

Edited to add: Breakdance looks awesome, by the way. Going to have to try that out, thanks to the person who posted that link for the $25 deal on the key above.

  • I use Elementor to build independent websites for my clients. Elementor is not compatible with every theme.

Yeah I went all-in on Webstudio a year or so back. Was active in the community as well. We did 2 full projects* in it and it was good (but did need a decent bit of web dev knowledge to use properly). I stopped using it for a while since they were working on adding some new features (they have now been rolled out: CSS Vars and more) but they also reduced custom domains from five to one in the Free Plan so I stopped using.

I think it's definitely worth it especially for those who purchased when it was cheaper but still has a ways to go. Decent free and paid plan compared to other builders so I do recommend one give it a try (bonus: you can self-host or run the builder locally).

Another builder I can mention is Divhunt.
