I once bought an Odys winpad in just about the same price range. It still works lol.

I got something similar to that from walmart.
Honestly, I would rather get a frigging kindle fire hd and sideload android.

Well, my winpad wasn't that much fun either. And now Win10 has outgrown the available disk space lol. Get a Chromebook at this point. Super lightweight and just enough for dev stuff and browsing

You can feel the lag as soon as you start multi tasking. Windows don't play well with lowendspecs.

What are your suggestions for a LES andoird for book reading?
Something that can display a full page PDF please.
The all seeing eye sees everything...
Have you considered getting a Chromebook instead?

Why do you want it? Because it is portable? Or touch screen?

Considered it, but on the "surface" this looked more versatile.

if it is for portability, a second hand laptop is a better idea (just change the battery)

I have about 10 older/second hand laptops, I just liked the idea of a super portable flexible one with a touch screen/detachable keyboard for travel.

did not try their products yet though I think, there is also this in Germany:

better quality, but higher prices of course
I prefer to stalk used Thinkpads to put Linux on. I have one right now that has a touch screen!

I've been through quite a few iterations, for a travel laptop.
Highlights:
Toshiba Click Mini (with a few tweaks) - used twice on holiday for checking servers.
I have a Fire HDX Android - wouldn't use it for travel though.
Sony VPCX - great screen, awesomely light but slow.
Dell E4200 - superlight
Portege Z930 - typing on it just now - just over 1Kg
All second-hand, of course.
It wisnae me! A big boy done it and ran away.

Unless you have good reason to think that Debian would run reasonably well on such a no-name tablet, I wouldn't bother buying it OR I would buy it with the intention of using Windows on it. (Just my two cents, but perhaps you're an avid tinkerer.)

Prime consideration: check boot/driver availability for the hardware.

Yeah, my impression is that tablet hardware tends to be pretty locked down

My partner is already super-duper-unhappy having to work with the original Surface Pro. She hates it for a large number of reasons. I cannot even imagine how bad a cheap clone will probably be...

On the flip side mine got her surface pro a few weeks ago and lobes it haha.

I'd probably try to find a recent (real) Surface model at a good price and resign myself to Windows.
Or I'd look for an Android tablet.
(I still don't have a tablet.)

I'd checkout https://techtablets.com/ -- they've got a lot of different types of relatively unknown brands which are kinda good and reviewed as well,

Warranty will be an issue for sure but I feel.
