Free Uptime Monitoring

Been working on a new project to get free uptime monitoring to the masses. 100% free forever, no paid tiers.

This is still in very early stages, so it's still light on features and there may be some minor bugs here and there. It's in constant development, so we're actively adding features and enhancements.

https://www.alerts.net/

If you happen to reach the max contacts / monitors, let me know, it can be increased. We're still playing around with initial limits.

PS - This is unrelated to RS (beyond some infrastructure being provided by RS).

I spun up a discord server to help track all of these requests and feedback.

    Cool.

    P.S.

Make it "complain" when you try adding a monitor without all the needed data filled/ticked. :)

    idiotfriendly :)

    P.P.S.

I think DKIM is not good - and that's probably why the notification emails end up in the spam box.

    Should be fixed.

    We'll look into DKIM

What is the point of me selecting timezone in profile if e-mails comes with different (unknown, not specified at all) timestamps? :-D

This can happen with Cloudflare (if the monitored site is behind Cloudflare) even with the tried & tested HetrixTools.

I suppose it is Cloudflare's "fault" (unless you are montiroing a site that doesn't use that).

    Edit:
Putting that to the test with the Alerts.net.

    OK.

I can confirm that the site behind Cloudlare does show more frequent short downtimes (and that's probably got nothing to do with the monitoring software).

An option to not send alerts if downtime is under X minutes is what I love about HetrixTools.

Lets me configure it to ignore any Cloudflare-related short outages (and check them when I'm at the computer, not get email notifications about them). Keeps email notifications relevant (only "real problems", i.e. "real downtimes").

    Edit:
"Keep me logged in" would also be very convenient to have (even if it can't be implemented rigth away).

Thanks, we're currently not lacking any resources, but I will reach out if that changes.

For any sort of feature requests, please add them in the feature requests channel in discord at https://discord.alerts.net

  • Unfortunately, I received a downtime notification for a website that I was actively using at that very moment. It would be great to get more feedback about why the check failed, e.g., an HTTP error code, whether it was a timeout, or if the connection was refused, things like that.

Also, a grace period would be great, as already mentioned above.

Tons of downtime alerts this morning when the sites were not actually down. Still occurring. (I can't reach the web portal, so that's probably part of it but .. uptime monitors needs to be fault tolerant to be useful.)

Also, would be wonderfully useful if the site that was "down" was mentioned in the subject line of the email.

  • I think a key feature for tools like this is distributed checks i.e. are the uptime checks being done from a single point or from multiple geographically separated points? A failure in your own systems could trigger downtime alerts for your users if it's just in one or two places.

Same... Probably something wrong with the monitoring server?

If you can’t be kind, at least be vague.

There's currently a bug where it's not verifying a down with a different geographically located monitoring agent. It should be fixed soon. There wasn't any downtime on our end (verified by 3rd party checks).

  • As of today, I am still getting tons of emails about "Down" and "It's Back Up". Tried to delete the account. Code was sent to the email but when I entered the code, the account deletion failed. Lucky it was a temp email so decided to discard that email identity instead.
