Feeling a bit tired, let's call it a day.
the network speed from sgp to my home isp ( in india) is really good one of the few providers who can max out my 100 mbps connection, nice

ClawCloud HK (China optimised) $4.2/m YABS:
How does one test for China optimized (genuine curious question)?
I used ping.pe, here are my results for APAC:
not bad
I bench YABS 24/7/365 unless it's a leap year.
Aah. OK.
I was hoping for something more concrete from the inside of the GFW to get a sense of how things translate in TCP land.
I guess that's asking for too much - who knows how long these open pipes will last.
But thanks!
Yeah, I won't really know for sure until I next visit, which won't be for a couple of months, and even then my tests will be limited to tests using hotel wifi in whichever places I happen to stay in. Testing from my phone is useless as my SIM routes via HK anyway.
Hopefully most of Aliyun's customers are Chinese trying to serve the Chinese market, so hopefully they will stay open. But I guess it's hard to know for sure what the status of these are if they are easy for foreigners to get as normally foreign companies need to get special documentation to host within China itself.
Hmm
Dunno about this. Third try trying yum update even after cleaning. CPU looks fine.
SSH seems to hang for 10+ minutes but something keeps the session alive... Wanted to get SmokePing on here which would usually take 5 minutes, I'm 20 minutes in trying to get yum updated.
At the same time it can't download yum packages, it can't get new SSH or traffic inbound. Just hangs. So it isn't the repo.
Something is very weird and off, trying another OS image.
EDIT: 25 minutes in, yum stopped responding since 2 mins in, SSH not responding, but the connection's still open.
This OS image (rocky) is bad, or there's something else going on. Trying another now.
I think ClawCloud's $7/year VPS offers great value for money, with good CPU performance and network experience. The 200mbps speed is sufficient for most needs. However, I hope ClawCloud can offer more features, such as custom images. It's also worth mentioning that they provide 30 days of free daily backups, and all of this costs only $7 per year.

2nd image that doesn't work and freezes upon trying to do anything but SSH stays alive. Cannot login via console, it's frozen too.
Any reason these machines (HK / China) freeze completely running yum, and your system puts them to a standstill?
Would love to get this figured out or a refund @CLAWCLOUD - This shouldn't take 45 minutes and two OS reinstalls to run yum.
Hey,
Thank you for your feedback.
I reached out to our technical team, and we set up a machine in Hong Kong with the same system configuration. We installed EPEL and updated the system, but we were unable to reproduce the issue you encountered. It might have been an isolated incident, and I apologize for any inconvenience this caused.
Alibaba Cloud is one of our most critical suppliers, and we maintain a long-standing and deep supply chain collaboration with them.
Cloud VPS instances do not provide dedicated computing resources; however, our cloud-based cluster strictly controls the sales ratio to ensure performance and stability.
We appreciate your understanding and patience.
Thanks, I tried Rocky 9.5 and Alma 9.5, both of these images are basically not able to run.
On Alma yum upgrade worked.
Upon installing yum install epel-release mtr wget mtr it froze and seemingly went into 100% CPU usage and my machine became unusable with high rates of CPU and HDD write...
Might want to check these images, trying Ubuntu now - maybe 1GB + Alma and Rocky do not play well with your config
PS: Thanks for your quick reply and checking, I will use strace and tools later tonight to see what happened.
@CLAWCLOUD - Invoice #37991
May I know please if this really is native IP -- my instance is showing a different internal IP address and is unaware of its own external IP.
Is this just running behind NAT or what?
Netboot can't detect the network interface at boot so I can't install the OS on my own either.
I think Clawcloud's design is more similar to AWS EC2's model, where the servers don't have a public IP but are instead mapped to an internal IP. Clawcloud has always marketed itself as a cloud architecture rather than a traditional VPS architecture.
The wording seems somewhat misleading. Please be clear about the price.
Thanks. Will this cause an issue with Apache?
Not as I understand it.
@CLAWCLOUD - please respond to ticket #QGY-465672
Getting extremely slow speeds in North Virginia.
Not the provider here, but from experience as a host Alma / Rocky (anything with Yum) needs 2GB to run comfortably and actually have working package managers. This is just my experience. Debian and other distros should run fine.
I understand it's not a thin install, but I run these on every other VM provider. I think I have 44 at VirMach alone, most 512M instances, and worst case I'll need to throw 1G of swap to get through some thicc package installs. In the past I used to separate the yum installs / upgrades one at a time, so I completely understand where you're coming from.
What I am not used to and was new was some very heavy handed CPU or resource protection which essentially made my machine useless and unable to connect to, while Alibaba Cloud's weird NAT was keeping the SSH connection active for minutes while no other connections could be made. Really weird stuff, and I've dealt with every flavor of hypervisor, on-prem and cloud. This was bizarre in terms of how things acted when trying to run yum, even with some spare swap.
I do agree it was my fault running Alma or Rocky on 1G and expecting normalcy, but everywhere else... it's fine. Looking at the resource graph, it showed something like 200M/s and fully bursting my CPU usage, so I need to find the time to run iotop and strace whatever process made my machine essentially become a hell of a noisy neighbor, so I reformatted ASAP.
In the meantime I've got it running Ubuntu, idling hard and keeping an eye on if the network's stable enough to use for SmokePing and UptimeKuma for some of real life's VIP customers. I don't just trust PRTG, you gotta monitor PRTG, and then monitor that monitor, and a loop begins.
Think "If you give a mouse a cookie"
TL;DR - prob my fault for running on <1g RAM, but real oddness ensues from the hypervisor on less than efficient OS. No time to investigate why, but formatted to avoid being the noisy neighbour.
wanted to collect all locations so selected locations / OS / billing cycles and added to cart one by one but the discount only appied to one of them at checkout...
I thought one use per customer means one checkout, but it seems to be one product only. okay....
