You might have to dig around some old repos to find something light enough to run in it. It'd be nice if you could proxy to port 6667 but not strictly necessary.

You mean running the irc daemon , it was not planed to compete with lowendirc :) But I might try it as a pet project.

You wouldn't necessarily have to compete. Irc servers are meant to be linked.

The minimal requirement for this is to remove Anope (no channel or nickname registrations) :p

This could be actually the funny part - several servers linked to form network, but not necessarily all with global/open i-lines.

Sure, this is a mostly educational/nostalgia project. You are welcome to link.

  • Bots are also welcome.

@carlin0 runs a bot in the #debian channel to announce Debian security issues.
@Crab suggested a bot to announce new posts in LowEnd forums.

Bots can be very useful, and they are also an excellent event driven programming exercise. They are very simple to implement, whether you choose to implement raw irc protocol (which is very nice by the way), or you use one of the hundrends libraries in any programming language.

If you’re interested in programming, have a cool idea, or simply want to put your idle server to use, feel free to experiment or suggest.

If you get stuck with the programming or protocol part, I’m happy to help you out.

@Not_Oles I am curious to see what you can do with netcat :P

Is there a public API available to pull recent posts? I tried to access Vanilla's API at https://lowendspirit.com, but I got access denied. Hopefully it is not seen as a hacking attempt

Api was disabled some years ago to avoid our megathreads and offers to be copy/pasted into other forums.

Especially the LES special category was a hot category to snatch offers before our community had the chance.
