CrunchBits ending all yearly/promotion services

edited November 20 in Industry News

I woke up to this huge disappointment, I really love my crunchbit services and it is a shame they will be ending at the end of their billing cycle

Dear XXXX

We are reaching out to inform you of an important update regarding our Yearly/Promotional VPS plans. After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue this product line. This change is effective immediately for renewals, but we will honor all existing plans through their current paid terms. We understand that this may come as a disappointment to some of you, and for that, we sincerely apologize. While many of you have been wonderful customers, this product line has presented unique challenges. A significant portion of these plans have resulted in disproportionate abuse and support demands compared to our other offerings. Despite our best efforts, this has created an unsustainable situation as the problems continue to resurface and continue to remain and/or grow with time. The only alternative to this would be implementing strict KYC/identification policies and limitations on all customer accounts which we are absolutely not willing to do. This has been limiting our ability to focus on other improvements across our entire platform. We greatly appreciate your business and want to provide as smooth a transition as possible. Here are the options available to you:

Your Options:

Pro-Rated Refund & Early Cancellation

If you prefer to cancel your service now and receive a prorated refund please let us know by opening a ticket and we will issue a prorated refund from November 1, 2024 until your due date. Services will remain active until at least November 30, 2024. We understand the need for clarity and will do our best to assist with your transition if this option suits your needs.

Continue Your Service Until the End of Your Paid Term

If you'd like to continue using your VPS until the end of your prepaid term (no matter the length), we will fully honor the remaining time. To choose this option, you do not have to do anything. Additionally, we’re happy to offer a recurring discount to transition to one of our upgraded VPS products at the end of your term—or even sooner if you wish to move early with a prorated refund for the remainder of your time. Our DIY VPS lineup is competitively priced and may align with your needs, though there may be slight differences in specifications.

Additional Notes:

If your due date is before December 1, 2024, your plan will be automatically extended at no cost until December 1, to ensure fairness during this transition.
IPv4 Renumbering: Separately, and unrelated to just the Yearly plans, we will be renumbering all VPSs in the 38.0.0.0/8 IPv4 space. This is due to a recent AUP change by Cogent, which has created operational risks by threatening to revoke BGP sessions/announcements for unrelated and lawful content hosted in our separate completely non-Cogent facilities. To safeguard your rights and maintain stability, we have already secured new IP space and affected customers will be notified of migration details soon.

If your situation is unique or not well-covered by the options above, you should still open a support ticket and our team will do their best to assist you. We are open to helping you and finding a solution for our early supporters. We do value your business and the trust you’ve placed in us. While this was not an easy decision, we are committed to improving our services and ensuring that we can better meet the needs of existing and new customers moving forward and making sure our efforts are focused on supporting them rather than continually cleaning up messes left by abusers.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
Eric Yingling

  • Per option #2, open up a ticket and see what they'll offer for the transition.

  • Sad. The Crunch crew figured out that the bad eggs can cause too many issues to make it worthwhile for them to cater to Low Enders. THAT'S why we can't have nice things. But am grateful at least to be paid up for a while:

I opened a topic over here as well with the statement just in case, didn't see this one until after.

The burden just became increasingly too much of the same abuse patterns, over and over. I don't want to go into too much gross detail, but the worst of the worst abuse originated from here because the barrier to entry was just too low. I don't want to start getting our ASN flagged (affecting all customers) or default blocked by other places like what has happened to some other providers.

We can continually stamp out the abusers one by one but I'll be pretty open and Frank (miss you) about it over here: it burns everyone out (esp over a promotional/fun product). Without a feasible way to truly stop them just coming right back while simultaneously also not continually ruining the experience for every other product stack this seemed like a better approach. I did consider just never restocking them, but I don't like the false hope (and daily tickets opened 'wen stock??!'). I am confident that level-headed and patient customers will come out ahead.

it is a huge shame that there are bad apples, I have been really happy with my services and use them for legitimate things like a person should :) I may see what you offer for Option 2 after I think about it some more.

    Option 2 I choose you!

Free Hosting at YetiNode | Cryptid Security | URL Shortener | LaunchVPS | ExtraVM | Host-C | In the Node, or Out of the Loop?

  • Definitely sad to see this. Out of all my VPN nodes, this one has been the most stable by far, and is one I was hoping to keep for years.

Given the performance of mine, this part is the option I would like to consider -- my renewal date was back in August so paid up for a while anyway -- but I can't find those DIY VPS options on the site, or any current services to add in my account, actually. @crunchbits any link to the order page so we can look at those possibilities?

  • Crap! I have a week or so, to work out an alternative.
Getting ready for my next heart attack. :open_mouth: :cold_sweat:

It'll be done via ticket as it's not going to be a fixed discount across the board, depending on which product you already had/etc. There are a few options you can decide from ranging from 'no price change' to 'slight price change' along with some other benefits.

EDIT: Forgot to add for clarity--it's related to why we've kept the DIY stuff out of stock, just making sure enough capacity is available for anyone that wants it.

Sweet, thanks! Will put a ticket in and see what the options are.

  • sent a support ticket, I hope I can continue using your lovely service :)

  • Put a ticket in for my 4 services. Still have 2+ years left on 2 of them and like 8 months on the other 2 so I've got some time to decide but would be nice to have a plan early.

For clarity; you want us to raise a Ticket, for you to then provide an appropriate equivalent/alternative package?

Low End Surprise! It will turn out to be an upgraded VPS on a different server for the same money. Maybe. Possibly. Hopefully. Won't know until put a ticket in which I'll definitely be doing when my current VPS term expires.
