Free Services: we're going to be doing a cleanup soon and I thought I'd reply here to gather any feedback on how it should be done since a lot of the people that would be affected would be here.

I'm building a little system to keep better track of free services, and this will be the initial notice and data collection stage. We basically want people to clarify if they're still even using/want their free services, if they're actually supposed to have it, and kind of setting a graceful timeline for everyone for people that don't reply, and what happens after the grace period, whether it be power-down, suspension, and termination or switching to full price (in some cases where it was supposed to be temporarily free) and allowing the customer to decide. As for moving forward, how we'll keep track of them being used or unused, how we'll handle that, as well as clarifications on account transfers, etc.

No, we're not ending free services, but sadly your "free until event occurs that already occurred 2 years ago" are finally going away.

Black Friday System is getting a last round of bugfixes and changes and then going into public beta, which will be posted soon™ with whatever we can work in. There's a bug where quantities aren't adjusted properly, another that doesn't properly list some plans as SOLD OUT on the frontend. And two features I'm trying to add is location being better marked after creation as well as hiding OS options on checkout, allowing purchasing as quarterly and biennial on top of annually, and potentially adding back some iffy features I disabled until reworking them (these last few might make it into the beta test halfway through.) One of these features is a price adjuster during the plan being active and it didn't have enough checks and/or notifications in place to make sure it doesn't roll over while someone is checking out or clearly labeled timer on change.

Tokyo Changes are being considered. I'll stay vague on this. I could explain it all in great detail but I'm not interested in what that entails in the past. Just for the sake of transparency, I'm letting you know. If this bothers you, don't renew. I'm trying to get it in a position where we can actually see it as a viable location to keep and part of that being that can finally feel comfortable finishing deploying all the additional servers I set up there in January. If these changes don't work out, we will begin seriously considering getting rid of the Tokyo location, so again if that possibility bothers you, don't renew. We'll try to be more careful on any further plans sold here beforehand based on what we've learned so new purchasers don't have to worry about any further changes in the future or the location disappearing. I probably won't be discussing any of these as people come here to complain in clusters. My answers would all likely be "okay, we won't do that but we have to get rid of Tokyo then, and move or prorate refund everyone anyway, sorry." Some of these changes may involve upcoming maintenance windows.

PHXZ002 had maybe half of people successfully moved so far. The other half have so far degraded into almost the worst case scenario and no improvement, it might end up in catastrophic data loss and just getting the services back online elsewhere without data.

PHXZ004 is mostly delayed due to not having the more sophisticated level of datacenter hands required. I'm trying a lot of workarounds, but no luck so far. I believe these received their next round of service extensions already and I'll try to have a finalized plan next week.

Any other major issues, if you're still facing them be sure to mention it if you think it is also affecting others, so I can make sure it's high up on my list. The Atlanta IP issue and AMSD035 potential VM crash issue are already on my list.

Your service is being migrated on November 9th, 2024. Please read the message for more information and your options depending on your specific situation and preferences.

    1. Migrating Early

You can reply to this ticket to be migrated earlier. When choosing to migrate early, you can specify the location you'd like to be request to be moved to, which can be any location currently available on our website that is not Tokyo.

    1. Migration/Location Fee Credit

If you had previously purchased a migration to Tokyo or paid an additional fee to select Tokyo originally, please reply back with the invoice ID of the payment and request that this be returned to your credits.

    1. Cancelling for Refund

If you no longer require this service after a location change, please click "cancel" to place a cancellation request at end of term and then reply to this ticket to confirm you want an early termination for pro-rated refund. We'll first attempt to refund to original payment method, and then store credit if that's not allowed by the payment provider. If you do not under any circumstances want a store credit refund, let us know, and it's possible we may be able to allow you to continue remaining in Tokyo for the remaining duration of your service without the option to renew instead.

    1. Requesting to remain in Tokyo

Please read these instructions very carefully. We can only consider this if the service was originally purchased in Tokyo. Only reply back if you are okay with an early migration occurring, and if you do not want to cancel for a refund. You can request we run a full audit on your account. If there are no previous abuse requests, payment issues, or breaking of our terms of service, you will be added to a waitlist for either remaining in Tokyo or being moved back to Tokyo once we have a stable node available. It's also possible you may more immediately be moved to another suitable node in Tokyo if approved. We will reply back to your request, and at our discretion, can either (1) reject your request and begin an immediate migration to process your request or possibly take further actions per the audit performed, (2) approve your request and proceed accordingly. Please make sure to mention any other preferences or requestions listed above as well, such as other location preferences, and if you require any specific credits if your request is rejected and location is changed.

    Why am I being migrated?

In our attempt at continuing providing services in Tokyo, we have to make some adjustments to bring usage levels in Tokyo to be more similar to other locations. Currently, Tokyo location servers are facing a higher memory demand than originally calculated/anticipated, and to avoid scenarios where this could become problematic, we must move away a select small quantity of services with high memory and/or swap usage. Approximately 5% of customers in Tokyo are receiving this message. We do apologize for the inconvenience, but we believe this decision will improve the quality of service for the other 95% of customers in the Tokyo location and it will allow us to continue providing services in the Tokyo location.

If you reply to this ticket, it is possible we will proceed with your request BEFORE November 9, 2024, so before replying, please make sure you are prepared for any migration occurring between the time you reply and November 9th. After any migration, your service's IP address will change and you will be required to utilize the new IP address instead for networking to function. We will attempt to automatically reconfigure networking, but it's possible you may have to change configuration within the operating system using VNC. If you have any other questions feel free to ask them but we will still proceed according to the process outlined above.

note:better check your original ticket as this lost some details(like bold text)

In for the ride, renewal was Oct 25th. :)
If you shut down Tokyo in the near future will there be location options for migration, or will Tokyo be moved to Los Angeles?
I'm not complaining, just asking for a friend.

  • Virmach, you are in business with very low prices for quite a while. To many people in low-end market you are an example of how things can be done.

If the survival of your business is at stake, then please cancel free services. A huge recession is on the rise, so this is understandable. A free service is good as long as it lasts. One can not blame you for shutting them down, instead it is better for one to appreciate you for offering low-end services as long as you did.

Your survival and reliability are more important than some free services which are good even if they last one day (because they're free anyway).

With regards to Tokyo, maybe you can migrate data of customers to a more convenient location, with their consent.

Amsterdam is more stable since it still exists.

@bmoto said: Time to say goodbye to my " Free-Until-Free-Of-CC " VPS?

    Yep, those are finally ending.

@bmoto said: If you shut down Tokyo in the near future will there be location options for migration, or will Tokyo be moved to Los Angeles?

There would not be enough space in Los Angeles for all of them and a lot of locations are closed out. There would likely be another location added. Moving all of them to one location would just turn that location into the new Tokyo since there's other issues than just colocation cost.

So actually what's been keeping Tokyo alive is that we can't just dump Tokyo into another location and have the same problems there.

It's more of a housekeeping task rather than a survival or recession task. There's just different levels of free services. They won't have a huge impact on anything. The goal is to clean out ones that were supposed to expire and set up a more organized system where we know the duration as well as making sure they're not just inactive/sold off accounts.

  • I have 3 free services with VirMach.

Shared-1 webhosting (that died few times and now complains about cpanel wrong license on lax2z017 :D). I think it was on purpose, some code lowered the price to 0$. That was in 2018?

    NVMe2G VPS at FFME002 from 10/09/2022
    NVMe4G VPS at FFME003 from 09/28/2021
One of those was "stress test machine" to see how it works that I think I migrated to FFME later as we failed to stress test it - we run everything we could, but those disks died X weeks later when it went "live" iirc :D

Second one I think it was some wheel thing - like I've rolled something and @VirMach decided I already had too many services to do it and he just set one free :-D

Haven't bought a single service in VirMach Great Ryzen 2022 - 2023 Flash Sale.

I had a free 384 MB secondary server from a recent migration for a few months, but the primary was deleted the other day.
