Spaceship increases prices on domains
I just got the following e-mail message from Spaceship:
New rates for your domains
Dear user,
We partner with many registries to bring you a wide range of top-level domains, but occasionally their prices increase, which means we need to increase our prices too.
On October 4, 2024, the domain registry for .live, .life, .digital, and 212 other domains will initiate universal price increases. These changes will affect renewal, registration, and transfer costs on select TLDs.
See the top 10 TLDs affected below. Prices displayed are for registration, renewal, and transfer:
.live: $23.81
.life: $26.91
.world, .digital: $30.02
.today: $20.70
.network: $24.84
.studio: $32.09
.email, .agency: $21.74
.bet: $18.63What to do next
To see the remaining TLDs affected by the price increase, reach out to customer support, and a member of our team will retrieve the information for you.
If you want to take advantage of the current price tag, renew, register, or transfer your domains before October 4, 2024.
Low price commitment
Registry prices may be going up, but our promise to you is low prices. We'll only charge the basic cost and a small merchant fee.
Renew nowSincerely,
Spaceship Team

I'm surprised there isnt a .servers tld
To the moon 🚀🚀🚀
Biggest price increase seems to be with ".movie", so one could say WTF? But ".wtf" gets a $2 price increase.

My worry with these vanity TLDs is that one year you register them for $1 the next year you renew for $1,000.
I am curious if only Namecheap/Spaceship does this. So far I got no e-mail message from Porkbun or Namesilo as an example.

Would not be surprised if the registry is behind these increases, you never know with these "designer" TLD's. edit: they said its the registry
They are all run by Donuts / Identity Digital and a bunch of their shell companies, they are also terrible at handling abuse on these domains and often overreach.
All this greed and price increases, and they still don't have API...
