NGINX drama
Hello!
As you probably know, F5 closed Moscow office in 2022, and I no
longer work for F5 since then. Still, we’ve reached an agreement
that I will maintain my role in nginx development as a volunteer.
And for almost two years I was working on improving nginx and
making it better for everyone, for free.Unfortunately, some new non-technical management at F5 recently
decided that they know better how to run open source projects. In
particular, they decided to interfere with security policy nginx
uses for years, ignoring both the policy and developers’ position. That’s quite understandable: they own the project, and can do
anything with it, including doing marketing-motivated actions,
ignoring developers position and community. Still, this
contradicts our agreement. And, more importantly, I no longer able
to control which changes are made in nginx within F5, and no longer
see nginx as a free and open source project developed and
maintained for the public good.As such, starting from today, I will no longer participate in nginx
development as run by F5. Instead, I’m starting an alternative
project, which is going to be run by developers, and not corporate
entities:The goal is to keep nginx development free from arbitrary corporate
actions. Help and contributions are welcome. Hope it will be
beneficial for everyone.--

Does this mean I gotta get rid of nginx proxy manager, damn...
While this sucks, does the current licensing model not allow for forking? Couldn't the dev simply fork nginx?
What were you thinking freenginx is?
Fair, I misunderstood the last paragraph then.
thats sad, at least there will still be an opensource version of it available
Get a free VPS! - freevps.org
Yes, then...
sudo rm -rf /etc ; sudo reboot -y
Mentally strong people don't use sudo.

Oh, good, then I'm safe to sudo because your comment doesn't apply to me.
well that sucks but the doc seems compatible with nginx by f5. if they have official docker image I'll just replace my image over and restart the container
Fuck this 24/7 internet spew of trivia and celebrity bullshit.
We'll see how this unfolds, I've been living under a rock last week it seems and I missed the memo
I'm curios to see if and when and why the codes will differ. I've just learned the term "enshittification" on a mailing list. Every day is school day!
I like my logs like my backups
Empty and useless

NGINX will continue to exist for free. I am glad they forked it. Now I am curious if it wiil it go into Debian repositories and FreeBSD repositories under a different package name?
I may be getting old, but I'm starting to feel that more and more of "free" stuff is going into freemium models to make money...
Ya, I am also using nginx proxy manager to host multiple VMs on my home network. Not much worried about it since I can still switch to apache reverse proxy since I only have a few, but it is a valid concern for those using it for commercial reasons...
Websites have ads, I have ad-blocker.
Nah you are not getting old or imagining it. Prices keep eising making it all but impossible to do things for free anymore.

From what I've read, it seems to me that there are no hints pointing in an ongoing "enshittification" of NGINX; rather, there's some bickering about how CVEs regarding HTTP/3 have been handled or should be handled. The 1.25.4 release appears to be the trigger
