Woah - what is this?
Something that feels very wrong!
ExtraVM
exactly my thought...
WOAH BRUTAL
Accepting submissions for IPv6 less than /64 Hall of Incompetence.
any YABS?
I bench YABS 24/7/365 unless it's a leap year.
For context, please see @ExAjiMag's posts on the free Crunchbits server thread, especially my post suggesting to @ExAjiMag that he post a tutorial.
Does anybody know whether or not the hack described in the OP actually works? Is the whole thing a spoof?
I hope everyone gets the servers they want!
This server is intended to be used by researchers, not by kids.
I already reported this incident to GESIS administrators
I think they fixed it, chroot dun work no more.
update: nope still works
update 2: instance is limited to 4GB while neofetch still does show 772GB

YABS:
They restrict internet speed tests.

Shot them a paragraph at: https://www.gesis.org/en/help
I suggest everyone to do the same.
I wouldn't have cared if it was Google or Microsoft, but this is an educational institute, a place where many would need such compute resources, and it would be a shame if GESIS had to shut it down.

It's not chroot, but proot, a user-space implementation of chroot.
And the "free vps" is only a limited sandbox envirment which is under non-root user privilege.
Maybe it a good case to educate people how to use proot, but not for Social Sciences .
I didn't bother checking the script, but yes seems like it is proot, isn't that also the think people use in termux to run distros?

The service is "exposed" by design, as they clearly say:
and
Little did they know.
Anyway, they are informed about this development and I guess they will re-evaluate what "openness" should mean.
And this is why we cannot have good things.
gadfly
I'm both a researcher and a kid.
Can I use this server?
Accepting submissions for IPv6 less than /64 Hall of Incompetence.
Surely you could have used it before the gadflies here made any announcements.
And this is why we can't have nice things
Is this a bug?
This seems pretty useful.
I hope this community does not exploit it to the point where this organization is forced to disable it for everyone to use.
The end is nigh on this one.
Stop the planet! I want to get off!
Surely it would be just for social researchers as intended and will not be abused by people on the internet somehow.
It's gone?
How much did they pay you for reporting?
I hope you are trolling.
How exactly are you using it ?
Why?
0 cent
good man !
I think it's MrRobot or maybe even WhiteRose or how that mjj's nickname was
