I just got scammed over $80 at Zumiv.com

I saw that this VPS service has a datacenter in Singapore and I signed up for a 1-month trial for $1 but after payment I was deducted $80.

Then my account was blocked and the ticket creation was deleted

Miserable, a huge amount of money for a poor country like mine (Vietnam).

Is there any way to get my money back?

Thanks

I would recommend you to reach out to your bank or credit card company and discuss the current situation with them. They can help dispute unauthorized charges.

  • I saw the same post on OGF. You won't get better advice than this even if you multi-post.

I post in many places so that those who follow can know about this service and stay away. Do you understand?

  • The entire website is fake.

Copied from a number of other hosting companies' websites.

Just reach out to your bank.

You can refer to your bank and mention the details of the actual invoice. If their deduction is not proportionate to the actual invoice, you have a lead there.

Today I went to the bank and reported the incident but it seemed the bank was very unprofessional.

They told me to go home and wait

The incident happened because of me, but if the bank solves the problem, if the customer encounters it, see how they do it, don't think so stupidly.

  • You are SOL if you are using a debit card. And I don't know how Vietnamese banks work but I doubt that they offer chargeback, even when you are using a credit card.

If they are a scam like @TheDP said then I would be worried about your payment details getting stolen as well.

  • By the way from where you find this provider?

I have informed the bank to cancel the card and issue a new card.

I found them from Google search.

  • I always prefer using PayPal so I can end the subscription anytime from PayPal panel, also can open a dispute without asking the bank.
If not, I will use a credit card instead of a debit card. If you pay with bank money instead of your debit money, it will be easier to get everything back.

Unauthorized charges on a debit card can be disputed, but cardholder could lose some of the money (up to $50 in USA).
The lost money can only be recovered visa lawsuit.

Offering chargeback is a requirement of issuing Visa credit cards.

Oh I was not aware of this. I have always assumed it's a US-specific things.

My friend got unauthorized charge about $1k and can get the money back by using chargeback. Ofc she still need to pay before the due but issuer add credit after few months.
